Karakuri Babble is a daily column by the editors of i360.com, usually on topics tangentially related to anime and cosplay.

In the past we have endorsed many things; in the future we shall support many others.

i defy you to not recall the word 'pudding.'

I never mentioned that I really liked Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
But why do I like it? I mean, I liked the plot and ambience pretty well, but they're not fantastic. Nothing that stands out, even if it's all fun and well-presented.

Actually, the thing that really grabbed me was the voice acting. It's a unique style. If I had to describe it, I might just point out that it doesn't sound cartoony, and leave it at that. It's like the character animation -- on the one hand it's flat, on the other expressive, and as a complete package it seems to express the characters perfectly.

And, now that I've expressed that -- I suddenly realize that I really do like the character animation. It's just plain stylish. It's technically adept without being opulent, and some of the keyframes are just incredible. The important thing about animation is that we have borrowed its name from a word that signifies an object is imbued with life. One rarely sees that truth expressed so well.
