In the past we have endorsed many things; in the future we shall support many others.

Saw an interesting article in Wired on the DMCA, and it's good reading for any otaku in the USA.

We are pirates, if you'll forgive me the generalization. The DMCA was widely reviled, but its safe harbor provisions, as Wired points out, helped make our piracy possible. (If it were possible for an ISP to be sued into oblivion for hosting bittorrent users, I'm pretty sure it would be blocked and heavily policed. Piracy would be slower, more personal. Word of mouth. SASE. Piracy would still happen, but we'd have lost a lot. Imagine it with me for a moment, and consider that in such a world we would still be grateful for what we had.)
