Bought
Flying Red Barrel ~ Diary of a Little Aviator from its English-language distributor,
Rockin' Android. (Bought! Me! Truly, times have changed.)
But I like shooting games, after all, and I enjoy making the occasional donation. (I'd rather give the money to the game's creators directly, but ten dollars is a price point that I can hit without thinking too hard about where my money's really going.) Besides, I reasoned, I could play the game and possibly even review it, just like a real columnist.
As you might guess from the setup of this column, things did not go as planned. I paid my money and downloaded the game fine. The installer ran, no problem. The game itself crashed on startup. Probably Windows Vista 64-bit had something to do with it. My laptop's integrated graphics might also have been the cause (although, really, these graphics are simple enough to not need hardware acceleration at all.)
So I sent Rockin' Android a polite email describing my problem, and I'll see what they have to say, like any paying customer. In the meantime, the game runs just peachy on Linux with WINE. Expect a more detailed review tomorrow.
