Still playing
Flying Red Barrel. It's fun. Very cute, nice artwork, plays smoothly. Game mechanic is tough (for me) but fair. Still can't beat stage 4, but at least I broke a million points. It's a rush when everything goes right and you're filling the screen with coins. No denying that.
On the other hand, I never got a response to my request for technical support, which is pretty annoying. I realize that they probably couldn't have helped, but a simple "Sorry, we have no idea" would have been better than no reply at all, which was what I got. I admire the product in a lot of ways, but it's painfully apparent that Rockin' Android is a tiny operation.
Even so, for what it is -- an English-language distribution of a cool doujin STG --
Flying Red Barrel does absolutely everything right. It's cheap, it preserves the feel of the original in every way, and it even includes the option to play in Japanese. How's that for catering to the otaku? Plus, no annoying DRM. This is how local distribution should be done, and I hope we see a lot more titles done the same way.
I'm actually kind of tempted to go visit the guy's retail store. I've been there before.
