One of the useful things about the column is that, as a more 'bloggy' part of the site, I can talk more about the experience of being fan press. It's intriguing, and varied, and unfortunately only of interest to very few people, which is why I don't often indulge my temptation to discourse on it at length.
Anyway. Being fan press at PMX is, frankly, so wonderful that you wonder when they're going to figure out that you're faking it. I mean, we're fans, always have been. We make no bones about the basic impetus towards our website. Sometimes -- quite rarely -- we get snubbed a little for it.
This doesn't happen at PMX. The staff know our quirks, and they seem to respect that, even though we're a very small niche organization, we've got a distinctive outlook and our own itinerary. I'm not saying I felt respectable -- heavens defend us from respectability -- but I did feel like we were all working together on the same team.
So, you know, I don't feel embarrassed when I tell the press staff I don't know the slightest thing about fashion. And no one minds if I walk in on the press panel for the sole purpose of chuckling at the fashion designer's jokes. It's that kind of show.
