Karakuri Babble is a daily column by the editors of i360.com, usually on topics tangentially related to anime and cosplay.

In the past we have endorsed many things; in the future we shall support many others.

from your watery grave.

Well, time to start the column again. I really enjoyed my unannounced break, but you probably guessed that. Who wouldn't?

Anyway, we've been working really hard to write some articles about our local con, Anime Expo. You may have heard they've had some staffing trouble, but what people are saying is only half the story, and it. . . suffers from an economy of truth. "Hatchet job" might be an appropriate phrase.

And even if we've had our doubts about AX in the past, it's painful to watch the vultures gather around. We all got together and decided that we had to do something. If we can't beat the carefully-orchestrated PR campaign against AX, at least we'll let them know that some people still care.

We're writing a series of articles. Four are already up, and we're working on more, and we're going to do our best to counter the worst deceptions of the current crop. It probably won't have any effect at all, but that doesn't change the justice of our cause.

It feels good to take a stand. We're going back to our roots, writing pure impassioned polemics that throw off vitriol in every word. For me at least, it feels like I'm writing about something important, and even if I can't change it, I feel a lot of pride at raising my hand and being counted.

We were never an objective news source. We never tried to be. But at least you'll always know where we stand.
