Yesterday I shook my head in disdain at those who shake their heads in disdain when confronted with
Isshouni Training.
But, after thinking about it a little while, I recalled that I too have been known to do the same. For example,
AIDA Makoto has always struck me as gratuitously weird, doubly so when he appropriates the iconography of pop culture.
Most recently, though I think I shook my head and said "oh, Japan" when I found out about the "Tengirls", who are award-winning anthropomorphic mascots for a line of . . . onanistic accessories.
Watch me not make this up.
But it makes perfect sense, right? Wouldn't a sex toy be near the top of the list of things that benefit from anthropomorphization? Maybe the Japanese have it right, and my confusion is actually thinly-disguised irritation at my not having thought of it first. Who is to say what's crazy, anyway?
